Hi, I'm Shelley
Wardrobe Staples and Mindful Fashion
When I lived in the US, my closet was the size of my current bedroom. Leaving that space behind made me think more carefully about the clothes I buy and the outfits I wear. I left fast fashion behind and embraced the capsule wardrobe life. Now, I choose to invest in elegant, classic pieces that speak to quality. I choose timeless pieces to build the staples of my wardrobe. They are easy to mix and match, so even though I don’t have a brand new outfit everyday… I actually do; I’m just using the same piece on repeat. Here’s how I put it all together.
An oversized white button-down shirt tucked in with tennis shoes, sandals or pumps for an easy yet polished look.
2. A classic stripe blouse is always a necessity in my wardrobe. Pair with white, denim or black jeans.
3. A cropped leathermotorcycle jackethas been a long time favorite wardrobe staple of mine. I love to pair it with jeans or a nice dress.
4. A chunky sweater (beige) layers well with white jeans and a white button down. Or layer over a white t-shirt and maxi skirt.
5. A wool sweater in grey. I’ve used mine to layer over all black yoga gear to wearing over a white t-shirt or white button down.
6. A black maxi dress (I have two – a silk one for dressier moments and a linen one for summer).
8. Invest in the best fit and decent quality denim so you can keep them for seasons and years to come:black jeans, washed denim pair and white skinny). Cropped or skinny fit works.
10. Outerwear: wool coat, vintage denim jacket, motorcycle jacket (brown or black depending on your style).
11. Footwear: a basic, but comfortable, heel, everyday kicksfor walking, sandals that go with anything and everything, and a nice ankle boot.
12. Accessories: I have two sets of sunglasses, a classicLous Vuitton clutch bag for the basics, a woven shopping bagfor more storage, and a statement lipstick (It’s Chanel’s Rouge 438 for me). You will also want earrings – a simple gold/silver pair for everyday wear that matches any bangles and bracelets you wear, as well as a set of pearlsfor those dressier days.
You can see from these items, I have everything I need to build a different outfit every day of the week. It’s so easy to do, it reduces my footprint, and makes my life so much simpler. Fashion doesn’t have to be intimidating.
