Dorm Room Home Decor Edit
It seems like yesterday that I was busy shopping and decorating for my first dorm room (1996). How time flies!! I remember how important it was to make sure my tiny dorm space felt perfectly curated (and coordinating with my roommates of course)! There are so many options these days (like headboards for example) that haven’t always been an option and can really transform a space. This could also be an extra special detail from my design perspective after living in Australia for 7 years while working and designing furniture collections for companies like (Heatherly Design Bedheads). I also realize how important bedding is, simple, beautiful, easy-care, etc, the list goes on. Neutral tones will always win for me because you can easily mix and match your pillows, art, etc and change things around from time to time while adding pops of color throughout the space.
If you’re looking for a few ideas, here are some options.
A few additional ideas to think about when planning out your dorm room space:
1/ Ask for a floorplan or measurements prior to moving in.
2/ Find out who you will be rooming with and what their sense of style is.
3/ Functional pieces such as hooks, hanging racks and shoe holders will make life easier on a daily basis.
4/ Sheets and pillowcases (2 sets) are always a good idea and some college beds use extra long mattresses.
5/ Don’t forget your clothes hangers, laundry basket and towels.
6/ Appliances (mini refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, etc) in your bedding color scheme will make your space feel more put together.
I hope these ideas help get you on the right track for this exciting time ahead. Living on your own and decorating your very special space for the first time is such a big moment in life. Also, having a peaceful and beautiful surrounding will help when focusing on schoolwork.
