Hi, I'm Shelley
Celebrating Mother’s Day with a Summer Herb Garden Project
This summer, I wanted to do something special to connect with my teen—we’re new to the world of herb gardening, and though our schedules are busy, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore together. Since she’s into cooking, I thought this might be fun, and so far, she’s really enjoying it!
Starting my herb garden—step by step!
Last weekend, I found a beautiful wooden planter box on Facebook Marketplace, and with a little help from my husband, we got it set up. Then, we went shopping for herbs—excited to get started! I chose mint, basil, cilantro, strawberries, jalapeños, chamomile, rosemary, and lavender.
Perfect for beginners and a fun way to add fresh flavors to your kitchen all summer long.
Before planting, I did some research and learned that soil makes all the difference — this is the best soil for herbs: link. It’s crucial because herbs don’t thrive in just any soil. I also discovered that each herb needs a different amount of water, so I planted them in three rows, making it easy to keep everything properly hydrated. (I’ll be sharing an image soon to show how I water them!)
Getting my herb garden started with all the essentials!
I’m loving this watering can — it holds a decent amount of water and looks adorable on the patio: link. To keep everything organized, I also got this minimalistic herb garden tool bag—everything I need in one stylish package: link.
The planter box I bought was just $40 on Facebook Marketplace, but I’m already thinking about expanding soon. If I do, I love this one with pockets — perfect for herbs and gardening tools: link.
I hope to share more tips and updates as I go! Wishing you a wonderful Mother’s Day — whether you’re planting your own garden or just enjoying some time with loved ones. And if you’re looking for last-minute Mother’s Day gifts, many of the items below are quick ships!
